822 × 400When it comes to towing features, there’s no vehicle quite like the 2020 RAM 1500, but how much can it actually tow? Our team at Clovis Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM can answer all of your questions about the towing and payload capacity of this new RAM truck. In fact, we even put together a guide of some of our favorite towing features in this incredible new model.

What Factors into Towing Capacity?

What exactly determines a vehicle’s towing capacity? Technically, there are three main things that affect your vehicle’s ability to tow: cab size, box length, and wheel drive system. The smaller the cab size, the more your vehicle will be able to tow, since your passenger weight is limited. The shorter the box length of your vehicle, the lower your curb weight will be, which allows you to tow more.

Finally, 2WD and 4WD affect your towing ability, since 2WD vehicles have a lighter curb weight. As a result, you can usually tow a little bit more than a vehicle with 4WD. However, you'll lose a bit of the stability and traction that 4WD provides. In the 2020 RAM 1500, each engine has a different towing capacity.
